Start with the birth record you have
Date alone works; leave unknown time blank. Houses need a recorded time, birthplace zone and coordinates.
Public calculation example
This example uses demonstration data, not a person’s birth record. Read its date, clock, zone and coordinates alongside the geometry. The example button fills those inputs so you can reproduce the calculation.
Public example chart
Positions use the recorded birth time and time zone you supplied. Accuracy depends on those details.
All ten positions and the major aspects are free. A recorded time and birthplace coordinates are needed for angles and houses.

Read the seven classical bodies beside their Hebrew letters and faculties in Sefer Yetzirah, Gra version, 4:8–14. Your calculated positions are shown alongside these source associations.
The letter and faculty are fixed textual associations for each body. They do not change with your sign or degree; the text does not give a modern natal interpretation of that position.
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto receive no letter assignment in this sevenfold source.

A computed tropical Sun sign and a Hebrew-month mazal answer different questions. The birthday converter’s evening-boundary choices change a Hebrew calendar date, not the astronomical instant calculated here.
The Gra version of Sefer Yetzirah connects seven classical bodies with letters and faculties. Our guides identify that version and distinguish it from other lists. This modern chart is a doorway into source study, not an algorithm specified by the text.

What this chart calculates
The ten bodies are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Tropical signs are twelve equal 30-degree sectors from the equinox, rather than astronomical constellation outlines.
Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 calculates geocentric coordinates in the true ecliptic of date. Positions are measured from Earth’s centre; birthplace coordinates provide the local horizon for angles and houses.
A recorded clock produces a resolved UTC moment. Without it, the wheel shows a labeled reference and sampled ranges. Apparent retrograde motion comes from changing longitude; a body has not reversed its physical orbit.
| Choice | Convention |
|---|---|
| Zodiac | Tropical: twelve equal sectors from the equinox. |
| Coordinate frame | Geocentric, true ecliptic of date; no atmospheric refraction in horizon angles. |
| Houses | Whole-sign: the entire rising sign is house one, followed by eleven signs. |
| Major aspects | Conjunction 0° and opposition 180°: 8° orbs; square 90° and trine 120°: 6°; sextile 60°: 4°. |
| Supported input | Gregorian dates 1800–2400; a supplied clock requires an explicit IANA zone. |
The Ascendant is the ecliptic’s eastern intersection with the geometric horizon. The Midheaven is separate and need not lie in house ten. Geographic poles or degenerate intersections yield no angles or houses. This tool has no sidereal/ayanamsha or alternative house-system setting.
The library author describes a one-arcminute design target. Our tests compare independent NASA/JPL reference samples within that tolerance. These checks concern geometry, not scientific validation of personality or event predictions.
Read uncertainty alongside positions
- Date and zone, clock unknown Ranges sample the actual local civil day, including clock changes. The midpoint is a plotting reference; possible sign changes remain visible.
- Date alone Without a birthplace zone, the civil-date envelope spans 50 hours, or 72 hours before 1970. The plotted 12:00 UTC is a reference, not an asserted birth instant.
- Recorded clock Skipped local readings are rejected. Repeated readings need the first or second occurrence. The result retains your clock, zone and resolved UTC moment.
- Historical records Before 1970, verify the place, clock and historical offset. Runtime timezone databases can differ and do not guarantee all past rules everywhere; future rules can also change.
Unknown-time results contain no Ascendant or houses. Planet and aspect ranges are estimated from samples at most an hour apart, not formal error bars. An approximate clock is treated as the supplied moment; the tool does not recover a missing time or propagate a custom plus/minus interval.
