Find a letter by its printed form

This atlas follows the twenty-two basic alphabet positions. Five have a separate shape normally used at the end of a word: Kaf, Mem, Nun, Peh and Tsadi. Their final shapes stay on the base-letter pages. English labels vary between charts; the Hebrew character remains the point of comparison.

Choose the method before comparing totals

Standard values run from Aleph 1 to Tav 400. Ordinal values use alphabet positions 1–22. The reduced-letter method reduces each letter’s standard value to a digit, then adds the letters. It does not reduce the final word sum again.

Some sources assign final letters extended values of 500–900, or additional ordinal positions. Mazalogy’s three methods retain the values of their base letters. A Unicode code point identifies a digital character; it is neither a gematria value nor an alphabet position.

Keep Sefer Yetzirah’s group names with their version

The Gra version names three mothers, seven doubles and twelve simple letters, also translated as elementals. These are classifications in the named text, alongside the ordinary alphabet order. They do not supply a modern pronunciation manual or establish a personality assessment.

  • three mothers: אמש · Gra 3:1
  • seven doubles: בגדכפרת · Gra 4:1
  • twelve simple letters / elementals: הוזחטילנסעצק · Gra 5:1

Move from a lookup into reading practice

Each entry provides a recognition question and a word checked in a specific Tanakh passage. The pointed word supplies reading information; its unpointed form supplies the same actual letters for the worked arithmetic. English word cues are brief contextual glosses, not full dictionary entries.
